THE PELAGIC OBSERVATORY · NIGHT SHIFT

Bluehour

One faint track. An ocean of noise.

Choose one flash on each sensor.

A message through Earth

Each row is a sensor. Each column is an arrival-time tick. Choose exactly one flash in every row, from the deep sensor upward.

A real track arrives later as it rises: the time difference between neighboring rows must be the same positive number: 1, 2 or 3 ticks. Some shifts tell you which gap to seek.

Blue flashes are your picks. Noise is indistinguishable until you compare the whole track. Use the residual readout to refine your theory. There is exactly one valid track in each shift.

Keyboard: Tab to a flash, Enter or Space to choose it. Arrow keys move between flashes and sensors. Clear picks starts this shift again. Completed shifts stay in this browser.
